The Department of Chemistry invites applicants for a tenure-track position beginning in August 2023. The successful applicant will join a department of nine full-time faculty members with a wide range of disciplinary expertise and a commitment to fostering diversity among faculty and students. We seek applicants who are committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduates.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Primary teaching responsibilities will include general chemistry and organic chemistry (lectures and labs). There will also be opportunities to teach more advanced undergraduate-level courses in the candidate's field of expertise. The teaching load will include three courses each semester. Academic advising, service to the department and the college, and a vibrant research program that significantly involves undergraduate students are also expected.

Education & Experience

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field (preferably by June 1, 2023; ABD candidates will be considered based on experience and a firm schedule to finish their degree by August 2023) and the ability to teach up to at least sophomore-level organic chemistry. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in organic, inorganic, organometallic, materials, polymer, solid state, or forensic chemistry. Postdoctoral or similar experience would strengthen the application. Recent (<5 years) experience in teaching undergraduate students is essential (e.g., acting as a teaching assistant in graduate school, as an adjunct or full-time professor, or some equivalent activity). An interest in conducting research with undergraduate collaborators, as outlined in the research description, is also necessary. We expect to see evidence that the applicant has an awareness of the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in education, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment among faculty and students. The ability to communicate effectively across a range of topics and audiences is also expected.

Applications are accepted through the Stonehill Jobsite only. The application should include: 1) a cover letter; 2) a resume or curriculum vitae; 3) a one-page teaching philosophy, which to a large extent delineates inclusive teaching practices; 4) a one-page description of an intended research project (not past research) that could be performed at Stonehill, clearly outlining how one or more undergraduate students could be involved in the project; and 5) a list of three professional references with contact information, which should be included at the end of the curriculum vitae. References will be contacted at the time of application, but they will not be required to upload letters of recommendation until the finalist stage of the search. The review of applications will begin on September 15, 2022, and continue until the position is filled. Applications received by this date will be assured full consideration.
