We are seeking one faculty from each of the following divisions/departments: Behavioral, Social Sciences & Global Learning; Health Sciences; Humanities & Learning Communities (ELL Faculty); Humanities & Learning Communities; Professional Studies; Science, Engineering and Mathematics; and Community Education (BLL Instructor) to assist Advising & LifeMap, the Advising Task Force and their respective academic division(s) align advisor training, student outreach, and advising services. As part of this pilot, faculty will work within Advising & LifeMap, Assessment and/or Student Central to advise students, create departmental/divisional resources for students, and develop a Faculty Advisor Toolkit.
Specific Duties:
- Work collaboratively with Division/Department Liaisons to outline departmental advising activities
- Provide targeted advising for English Language Learners
- Create and record video overviews of academic departments within the division including programming and services provided by the departments specifically for their majors
- Create a virtual and in-person information session for academic departments and/or division
- Review updates to the Advising Institute and provide feedback to the Advising Task Force
- Review updates to Advising & Registration and provide feedback to the Assistant Director of Advising & LifeMap
- Participate in pathway advising of new students
- Develop a toolkit for faculty advisors with emphasis on tools for group advising
- Co-facilitate department/division information sessions
- Maintain knowledge Associate Degree and Certificate programs, curricula and course sequencing
- Assist students with course selection, course sequencing and academic pathways
- Assist students with adding, dropping and/or withdrawing from courses
- Provide students with referrals and direct connections to academic support such as tutoring;
- Attend weekly Advising & LifeMap department meetings
- Utilize Ellucian programs and other software
Job Requirements:
- Completion of 2021 Advising Institute; can substitute with prior participation in advisor training at BHCC or previous institution
- Experience using Ellucian SelfService
- Proficient user of Moodle or Digication/ePortfolio
- Willing to learn and become a proficient user of new technology (software and hardware)
- Able to work 12-13 hours per week throughout Spring 2022
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience teaching or working with new immigrants or English Language Learners
- Written and spoken proficiency in more than one language.
- Experience with Panopto
- Experience with Ellucian Colleague
Additional Information:
Salary: $30.03 per hour
12-13 hours per week
Temporary employment ends June 30, 2022
